The developers have given no thought to quality of life. Why God Eater 2 is so determined to remember the atrocious God Eater 1 is beyond me, but you'll see a lot of the inferior entry's characters and level design. Problem being, the game seems determined to shove your face in its failure by dragging the setting back to the setting of the first game instead of the vastly more interesting mobile fortress you inhabit for the first portion. The one saving grace of this game (this time around) is the story, which has improved from the first game. They'll frequently get distracted by unimportant, infinitely spawning trash mobs while you're left to fight the mission goal on your own. For example, even if your party members can heal you and you're one hit from death they'll usually just ignore you until you've got literally a sliver of health left. The party member AI is not adjustable and fails to do the most basic things correctly. If you intend to go through this game I would highly suggest looking into something like Cheat Engine to save yourself some pain. There is no option to turn down the difficulty for those of us who don't enjoy grinding.

The game also likes to give you very little reward for the missions you go on so that achieving anything meaningful can be a full day experience. A single mission seems to be intended to take around 20 min. Compounding this, many monsters have precisely one yulnerable body part to one kind of damage (Sekhmet, Sariel) which is quite small. If you hit multiple parts of a monster's body with a swing (which you almost always do) the game will automatically select the region which the monster will take the least damage from. Even if you switch weapons you'll have to slog through the mission with a level 1 weak blood power that makes you wonder if anything's really improved. Except this entry introduces "Blood Powers" which are weapon type specific.

Im playing it just because I like to diversify and see what's out there. The game has its strong points (story, beautiful anime artstyle) but it's not as engaging, the hunts are far too quick and the areas are smaller. If you DO play MH it becomes less a little less appealing though.
If you don't play MH, and are into these kinds of games you'll love it. God Eater 2 is a solid game, and I give my stamp of approval. It is the benchmark against which all games of the genre will (and rightfully should) be compared. And regardless of whether or not MH created the genre, it did (and still does) define it.
